Learning about Time
In Mathematics we have been learning about Time. Here are some photos of some of our activities.
Commemorating Anzac Day
On Friday we met with our Buddy Class we each constructed a paper poppy and experimented with dough, clay and super-sand to construct a model on the theme of ANZAC Day. We enjoyed being creative.
Later in the day at our special ANZAC assembly, we listened to an ANZAC song and all showed our respect with a minute of silence.

Get NZ Writing
For the past month, we have been working on the writing challenges presented by our Get NZ Writing package. We waggled our ears, rolled our tongues, licked our elbows and crossed our eyes; we did surveys; we found amazing sounding words; we found incredible facts and we wrote it all down.
We learnt how to write Found Poems and wrote some of our own:

We learnt about metaphors then wrote about ourselves using metaphors.
We learnt how to write postcards and look what our postcards turned into when we put them all together:
Now all of our writing is on its way to Boulcott School in Wellington. We hope they love receiving our package as much as we enjoyed creating it. We eagerly await the arrival of a package from them, opening the door to their world.

Road Safety with Constable Merv
Yesterday Mr Constable Merv came to visit Room 15 to teach us how to cross the
road safely.
The first thing he taught us to do was to “Stop, Look and Listen”.
Later we all put on bright yellow vests with silver stripes, so cars could see us.
Once we got to the Fordyce Avenue gate we got into pairs.

Jade and I were partners and Srinitha and Sophie were partners. Then Arlo and
Donnie went across the road first. Next was Srinitha and Sophie then Jade and
me. Everyone got across safely on the way there and back to school for lunch.

I was really interested in what Constable Merv meant when he said, “When the
silent cars are coming you can still hear them”. It was a marvellous day.

Dr Seuss' Birthday
Each year on 2 March, people around the world remember and celebrate Dr Seuss and his books on his birthday.
Room 15 brought along some of their own much-loved Dr Seuss books and enjoyed reading and sharing some of their favourite stories with each other as we acknowledged his birthday on Friday.

Chinese New Year Celebrations in Room 15
Today Room 15 shared stories and craft activities to celebrate Chinese New Year. The students made lanterns, Chinese dragons and fortune tellers. We shared stories about the Lantern Festival and the characteristics of children born in The Year of the Dog.
We wish all of the families celebrating Chinese New Year this weekend a Happy New Year and best of luck for 2018!
